THE PERFECT FAMILY, 2012

large format film

The Perfect Family is a portraiture series that deals with the subject of gender preference in the Asian familial context. This issue within Asian culture was extremely prominent in its history. There was a great desire for sons to be the main offspring of the family and this existed within each family household as a golden standard. Although this biased opinion has lessened over time, there are remnants of this age-old tradition that has been preserved through individuals whose belief that a son is the ideal child. This aspect of Asian culture has dominated the majority of Chinese history but can still be found lingering in certain families today.
